I'm planning a safari to Tanzania this summer and am wondering what the best way to support my camera from the vehicle is. My longest lens is a 400mm f2.8 (Nikon AFS) and I also plan to use it with a 1.4x and 2x teleconverter. I'll also be shooting a 300mm f4 and 80-200mm f2.8. The safari company (Thomson Safaris) uses modified Land Rovers (standard 10 seat configuration changed to 6 forward seats, lowered floor, roof hatch). I've read about the Groofwin Pod and the Kirk window mount. Opinions on which of these is better for the type of vehicle I'll be in would be appreciated. Joe McDonald's book says he uses the Groofwin with a bean bag instead of mounting a ballhead. Anyone else have experience either way? I've got Really Right Stuff plates mounted to all my cameras and long lenses and have Arca Swiss B1 and Linoff Profi II ball heads (both with Arca Swiss quick release plates). I could mount one of these heads to the window mount if this made sense. Also, does it make sense to consider a monopod from inside the vehicle? Thanks, Jay
