Are the Bose stereo ( the small CD , radio ) systems better than most, I'm considering getting one for my shop. Anyone have one? MT My wife bought me one several years back (the radio only; there is an input for a CD p_layer_ though, and I use a Sony portable for that). It's far better than most small radios, and the sound (considering the small speakers) is pretty good. It's not audiophile by any means. However (and I don't look a gift horse in the mouth) my guess is you could get just as good sound for less money. It is a nice, compact package though. Steve

MT For me, as an ex-audiophile (I haven't bought any new audio gear since, well graduate school then kids), Bose makes me see red, right up along there with Sting's Dowland. All kidding aside, ask in an audio forum for opinions on Bose, and I believe the general consensus is that the company does not strive for accurate reproduction, only good sounding reproduction. I haven't heard anything new or old from Bose in years, but I can tell you that I'd still be very, very unlikely to purchase anything of theirs. -S-

Count me another Bose-basher. If you'd like som durable, terrific live sounding speakers, buy some used Klipsch Heresy, Chorus, Forte, or similar models. Not hard to come by pretty cheaply. That, and a used 70's amp from a good maker like HK or Luxman and you will have a budget system that will last forever and sound better than anything other than really expensive audiophile gear. Anyway, that's my recommendation.
