powder room faucets SODA, POP & TONIC was Re: Euphemisms in advertising
for the purpose of this isogloss. <... I once stopped with my sisters at a service plaza on the Pennsylvania Turnpike somewhere southwest of Pittsburgh, I believe. We were wondering aloud whether to order pop or soda, and the waitress immediately informed us that we were right on the line. She pointed with her pencil and said That way they say soda, and that way they say pop. The line is further east than that.  I grew up near Altoona, Pennsylvania, about halfway between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg (Interstate 99 runs through it).  It was always 'pop'.  Only when I went to college in Philadelphia did I hear it called 'soda'.
