Hello all - I was born without my two upper bicuspid or eyeteeth (my apologies for anatomical naming errors). After years in orthodontics in grammar school, I was fitted with a pair of Maryland bridges, one of which broke last year (I am 31 years old now). I consulted with several dentists, including a prosthodontist. No one was willing to talk about another partial bridge, and I was told that I needed further orthodontia to ready my mouth for two 3 unit bridges, or dental implants. The concensus was that both bridges should be replaced together. The bridges were removed and into braces I went. The orthodontia will come off within 2 months now, and I am leaning towards implants. The teeth on either side of my missing teeth are in good shape (the partial bridges did not cause damage to the teeth to which they were attached). It is more appealing to me to undergo the surgery rather than destroy healthy teeth. My question regards pricing for the procedure. The periodontist to whom I have been speaking feels that the surgery should be straight forward, with the possibility of requiring a root canal on one adjacent tooth. His fees for the 2 implants will come to about $3,500, not including the cost of any possible endodontics. The prosthodontist will charge $1,200 per tooth, plus an additional charge of $300 for the pre-surgical splint. I don't know how to comparison shop for other prices, without incurring $80.00 consult fees with each specialist seen. Can anyone out there point me to average charges for these procedures?? I do have confidence in the specialists involved, but I have become shocked by the huge price tag for these procedures. The 6 units of bridge work would have cost me $850.00 per unit, plus $1,500 in periodontic work to prepare the gums, as well as the possiblity of up to 4 root canals. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Ken Block
