http://www.glaad.org/Page.aspx?pid=1214 Job Summary Reporting to the Associate Director Individual Philanthropy-West Coast, the Philanthropy Officer is responsible for meeting or exceeding GLAAD’s annual fundraising goals for major gifts ($1,500+) and for supporting GLAAD’s volunteer Leadership Council program. Media Circle members are individuals who contribute $1,500 – $4,999 annually to support GLAAD’s vital work. Alliance Circle members are individuals who support GLAAD at the highest level possible with annual gifts of $5,000 plus. GLAAD’s Leadership Councils are core groups of committed, major donor volunteers in targeted cities across the country that are responsible for raising awareness and support for GLAAD and for stewarding GLAAD’s Media Circle members. Currently GLAAD has Leadership Councils in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco with plans to grow the program to 10 councils in targeted cities by the end of 2013. The Philanthropy Officer solicits and secures major gifts; provides administrative support to GLAAD’s Leadership Councils; manages and builds a personal portfolio of major donors and prospects; collaborates with the Associate Director Individual Philanthropy- West Coast, the Director of Volunteer Management and the Director of Individual Philanthropy on strategic planning related to the expansion of GLAAD’s major gift fundraising initiatives; plans and coordinates donor appreciation and cultivation events; ensures effective communication between Leadership Council members, the major gifts team and the regional media team (including program successes, major gifts goals and committee business). The Philanthropy Officer is also responsible for facilitating and tracking all Leadership Council fundraising activity; handling day-to-day administrative duties, tracking donor data_base_ and donor information, planning and implementing recruitment and orientation events and miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Associate Director Individual Philanthropy- West Coast. Responsibilities Identify, cultivate, solicit, secure and retain annual gifts of $1,500 and above Manage donor stewardship including face-to-face meetings, phone calls, written and email communication. Work with Leadership Council members on fundraising techniques to ensure that Leadership Councils achieve their respective fundraising goals and provide support for other Leadership Council activities Write copy and _script_s for communications to major donors including proposals and acknowledgement letters Develop creative concepts and works with communications team on the production of invitations, collateral/marketing materials, newsletter stories, web content and email content Work with the events team to coordinate and plan major donor involvement in GLAAD’s special events Create, update, collect and distribute Leadership Council reporting tools – meeting agendas, meeting minutes, tally sheets, and donor solicitation reports. Manage the distribution of GLAAD programmatic updates, donor information, renewal updates and stewardship & cultivation specifics Work with the Individual Philanthropy Associate on the monitoring and fulfillment efforts of outstanding pledges Develop and manage the Leadership Council recognition/appreciation program with the Director of Volunteer Management The work of GLAAD resembles a campaign-_style_ work environment; there is always a high level of energy, excitement and activity for everyone in the organization; preparing for the next events/activities to accomplish our important media advocacy work, fighting the defamation against the LGBT community and changing hearts and minds about our need for full equality. Qualifications Required: College degree or equivalent experience Required: Minimum 4 years experience in development, preferably focused on major gifts PLUS experience in either volunteer management and/or field organizing Required: Proven track record of well-honed skills in developing long- term donor cultivation and solicitation strategies Required: Minimum of three (3) years experience supervising and motivating senior-level volunteers and cultivating volunteer groups across the country Excellent organizational and analytical skills Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to write persuasively are very important Superior time management skills Willingness and ability to work well with others Talent to be both engaging and professional when making presentations at events and meetings Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet programs and data_base_s Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Experience with research methods Written and verbal communication skills should be polished Flexible schedule with an ability to travel; work weekends and evenings when necessary. Knowledge of and commitment to the LGBT community Knowledge of or interest in media Supervision The Philanthropy Officer reports to the Associate Director Individual Philanthropy - West Coast and has no direct supervisory responsibilities, except in cases of overseeing the work of volunteers on occasion. Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
