when my hair was in one of those ultra-short gamine cuts a few years ago, my hairdresser offered to give me free extensions if I did a favor for him. The extensions were dyed to match, fake hair, gave me a hair_style_ past my shoulders, and glued onto my skull with hard-core glue. I loved the way they looked for the first few days but you're not supposed to wash them that often, and the glue started to ITCH and the hair extensions started to peel off towards the front of my head

when my hair was in one of those ultra-short gamine cuts a few years ago, my hairdresser offered to give me free extensions if I did a favor for him. The extensions were dyed to match, fake hair, gave me a hair_style_ past my shoulders, and glued onto my skull with hard-core glue. I loved the way they <snippety I had extensions braided into my ~3 inch hair. You start with a very small, tight braid of your own hair then braid the extension in as tightly as possible. Then you take a needle and thread and stich through the braids for a stronger hold. Took a good 4 hours to do my whole head. The first night I slept on the braids kind of hurt, like sleeping in curlers, but after a couple more nights I didn't notice them much. This downside of the braid method was that after a week I had to re-braid some of the strands. But the upside was that when I wanted them out, it took a painless half hour to unwind everything. I used fake hair because it was way cheap, but it started to itch after a while. People told me that real-hair extensions don't itch much. YMMV, LauraM

: Hi, I need some information on hair extensions, I have an event I want : to attend and need to have longer hair so I can put it up in a fancy : updo. My own hair is short, about 2 1/2 inches. I understand they are : glued on to your own hair. My questions are : 1 is this even a possible dream : 2 how hard is it to _style_ your hair with extensions : 3 how do they match your own hair : 4 how do I remove them once I no longer need them. The answer to #1 is yes. The answers to 2-4 depends on what kind of extensions you get. I would suggest avoiding the ones that glue in, because they can damage your hair. The kind that are woven in (weaves, falls, etc.) or braided in are much less damaging to your hair. If you have good quality extension fibre (like kankelon) or human hair, styling is fairly simple. If you have crappy extension hair, styling is difficult. I would suggest going to a stylist and asking them for reccomendations, pricing, etc. I can tell you now, it won't be cheap. Try african-american salons and/or braiding places. j
