(LIPICA EN LIPPIZANERS) More about Lipica and Lippizaners Lipica lays in Slovenia near Italy, Austria and the Adriatic sea and is one of the oldest stud farm in the world.. The horses out of this neighbourhood were already know for there strength, endurance and speed during the times of the Romans.. Lipica was founded in 1580 to supply elegant horses to court stables in Vienna. Lipica have had good and bad times. During wars a lot was destroyed and several times they had to flee with all the horses for instance for Napoleon. After the second world war Lipica developed the needs to train the horses by there own. This way they could select the most talented stallions and mares to breed the classical type Lippizaners. This is still the way it is performed today. The unique thing about Lipica is that it has opened it's doors to people who are interested in the dressage sport,  who here can experience for themselves how it is to ride a Lippizaner and to walk around in the stable and watch the training sessions. Lippizaners are very intelligent, compact en loyal horses. They are trained in dressage, inclusive the  school above the ground. The foals are born black or dark brown and don't turn white till they are six till ten years of age, it is very unusual for the horses to remain dark. Every Lippizaner breed in Lipica has a L brand onto his left jaw. They also have a number branded under there saddle so they are always recognisable. Every stallion had two names, the one of its father and its mother so there decent is readable. (TRAINING) More about dressage training When the young stallion reach about 3 years they are longed after which they slowly get familiar with a saddle and a rider. After one year of training with saddle, change of track and terrain a selection is made _base_d in temperament and character. The second year the stallions are trained more intense were they tend to ride a lot in a group. After this two year training only the most talented stallion gets classified to later be a stallion. These stallions are trained a further two years were they are trained the toughest dressage exercises like passage, piafe and pirouettes. The stallions take part in international dressage competitions. Just a few are eventually selected as stallion. You will see the stallions during the dressage show or maybe you will ride a stallion yourself during your holiday in Lipica. A part of the stallions will be castrated to gelding, this makes it more easy for beginners and advanced to ride them. The mares are manly used for the breeding. They will be trained in a year to be familiar with rider and carriage. (NAAR LIPICA) Coming to Lipica We advise you if possible to travel to Lipica with your own car. In this case it easy for you to explore the surrounding. If it is impossible for you to travel by your own car we will be happy to give you any information about the way's of travel by bus, train or aircraft and were to book this. The transfer from station or airport to Lipica you can book on request at Lipica Travel. You will be expected on a Saturday in Lipid. After checking in at the hotel you can explore the terrain of the stud farm. On Saturday evening you are welcomed on the stud farm with some Teran wine- and Karst ham trying, were you and others get told about Lipica. The language most used is German but English is also spoken. During your stay you can also take a tour which takes you past all the nicest places of the stud farm were the guide will tell you about Lipica and Lippizaners. (VERBLIJF) To Lipica - Stay In 1980 the Klub hotel was built on the stud farm to celebrate the 400 year anniversary of Lipica. The hotel has over 200 beds and has a beautiful inner yard with terrace and has a fitness with sauna and there is also a Pub. Every morning a breakfast buffet is ready for you in the restaurant. If you have full board dinner and lunch is a 3 course meal with a salad -bar. The rooms are simple but spacious and most of them have a beautiful view over the stud farm and the surrounding hills. Every room has its own bathroom and toilet. During your stay you can use the free sauna, fitness and the indoor swimming pool with sun terrace from the nearby Maestoso hotel. If the Klub hotel is closed which is manly during the winter for several weeks, you will stay in hotel Maestoso which gets its name of the famous stallion Maestoso. In Lipica you can also find a tennis court, golf court and a busy visated casino (free entrence for guest). (OMGEVING) To Lipica - the surrounding If you want to do a bit more then look at horses during your holiday you can also make trips to the surrounding. In nice weather a trip to the Adriatic coast is a tip. The beautiful seaside resorts like Ankaran (40 km), Koper (45 km), Portoroz (50 km) en Piran (55 km) are within an hour reach by car. Also a visit to the caves of Skocjan or of Postonja are both worth while, both are reachable by car in a half a hour. The nearby surrounding is perfect for hiking and there a several nice old towns like Sezana, Lokev and Divaca. If you would just like to wonder around the city a visit to the old Italian harbour city Triëst (10 km) or the Slovenian capital Ljubljana (80 km) is a good choice. Ljubjana has still got its old part of the city with its fortresses but also has a modern shopping district. You could of course also consider to combine your holiday at Lipica with a beach holiday at the Adriatic sea or a week at lake Bled. Or what about the mountains at Bohinj or Kranjska Gora were you can ski in the winter and hike in the summer. (EEN LIPPIZANER BERIJDEN) Riding a Lippizaner Your arrangement is from Saturday up and till including Saturday. The first lesson is on Sunday, the last is on Friday. Depending on the kind of arrangement you have chosen you will ride once or twice a day. Lipica has three modern inside riding halls and several outdoor riding places. The whole day instructors are training with there horses, this is very interesting and instructive to watch. Several times a week there is a show were the horses show several training's with music which is free to watch. In other words... there is enough to do and see in Lipica, this gives possibility's for every rider. To prevent any on the spot disappointment it is important that you carefully read the course level so you can give a fair and honest judgement about your own capability to be sure that you meet the required standard. If you have any doubt ask your own instructor. Lipica Travel is more then welcome to advise you on your choice, this _base_d on your personal wishes and your own capability. Instruction is given in the German language, if your preference goes out to English then we request you to state this when booking. (ARRANGEMENTEN) The horseback riding arrangement INDIVIDUAL DRESAGE The lessons are from level L. Most instructors are experienced international competitors, many of them on Grand Prix and few even on Olympic level. You will be riding well trained Lippizaner horses. During the first lesson your instructor will see at what level you are riding and you will have a chance to get used to the very special Lippizaner horse. From the riders we expect a correct and relaxed way of sitting on the horse and a good knowledge of the different commands. You must be able to ride your horse in a collected walk, trot and gallop. Besides that we expect you to ride transitions, changes of tempo, easy gallop changes, backwards and going sideward on the easy way in trot and walk. Your training program can be improving the above mentioned skills as well as learning new skills, such as advanced sideways and flying gallop changes. You will be riding once a day in a very intensive way. BEGINNERS AND ADVANCED advanced, individual and in group Your posture, the way you sit and the usage of tools is corrected during step, trot and gallop. You are able to ride simple figures and transitions during step, trot and gallop. Naturally speaking the level of the lessons is easier to adjusted to you personally during a private lesson then during a group lesson. In case you would like more personal attention we would recommend you to book a private lesson. Are you able to ride your horse on the rain, but not sure that you are experienced enough for the dressage course, than the private advanced riding course is a good choice. Because the private lessons are so intense the are only held once a day, the group lessons are twice a day. Beginners, individual and in group You learn the right way to use the different tools during step, trot and gallop. For the group lessons you are required to have already ridden 5 till 10 times before. If this should not be the case, then we would advice you to take private lessons. Private lessons are very intense and therefore are only given once a day, the group lessons are twice a day. RIDING OUTDOOR There are daily peaceful trips in the neighbourhood of Lipica, against a extra payment which is paid on the spot you can book a day trip. You will be required to have terrain riding experience. The horses are obedient but also temperamental. Of course you will be able to book some outdoor riding if you are following lessons.
