About a month ago, the local driving range I frequent had a guy in town to give a Natural Golf demo. There was a poster that explained that he was a certified NG instructor and that he would be available for private lessons (at something like $60 per hour IIRC). I thought it would be interesting to see his demo but alas I was out of town. Move forward to today. I haven't swung a club for two weeks because I was so disgusted with my last round (suspended myself for throwing a club). So today I brought my 5-wood to hit a small bucket thinking I would use that for tee shots. When I arrived, there was a banner staked in the ground announcing that the certified NG instructor was on board. I saw this rather young guy working with a woman who appeared to be a total beginner. I wandered down the line and proceeded to hit two or three good shots out of the 45 balls in the bucket. As I walked away disgusted, I started thinking maybe I just ought to talk to the guy. What could it hurt since I cant seem to hit a golf ball these days (unless my pro is standing behind me in which case I look like a single digit p_layer_). As I walked back, I saw that he was addressing the ball. He stood there for a few seconds, changed his view from the ball to the target a couple of times but otherwise looked like a typical weekend hacker

There was a poster that explained that he was a certified NG instructor and I'm not sure anyone in NG is legit. I think it's all about making $$$. I could be wrong, but I have no favorable impressions from the NG instructors I've watched and spoken with. Plus, I'm not sure any of them knows what Moe Norman really did. My research in Norman's swing indicates to me he was large left dominate, whereas most of the NG instruction I've seen stressed the right arm/side. David A.

Don't put down Natural golf just because of the poor performance of one of the instructors. I have seen the same topped balls and poor shots from conventional golf instructors when I'm at the range. The sad fact is that most instructors are basically 80's plus shooters (if they are lucky) who should not be teaching golf to anyone.

There was a poster that explained that he was a certified NG instructor and I'm not sure anyone in NG is legit. I think it's all about making $$$. Last time I checked, all intelligent businesses are all about making $$. As far as I can tell, the entire golf industry is about snake oil peddling, including the legit ones. All the golf mags have been publishing cures to slices, increasing distance, and improving putting for as long as I can remember. We should all be hitting the ball into orbit at this rate. As for NG, if it as rotten as some claim, the truth will come out eventually, and it will go away. If at least a good fraction do improve their games, it will stick around. Finally, there is at least a little truth to the saying Those that can, do; those that can't, teach. (And those that can't teach, teach gym.) Instructors in a field are not necessarily the best the field has to offer. We have heard of people in wheelchairs coaching sports teams, are they not legit? The ability to convey information and skill is something else than doing a skill. JMHO. -gsp
