Each full inclusion child, generally only one in a classroom, has a full time aid. That's nice, but it is costing the district a pretty penny. Just to be clear, there are children who are not in a normal classroom at all who also have full-time aides (this goes along with Federal mandates and individualized education needs). My girlfriend had this job for a while (they call it a one-to-one ). She had one teenaged boy like this who would physically attack her a few days a week. It can be an intense job.

My son spent a couple of years of his childhood at a school site where all the classes were in portables, and there was no outdoor play space (because the portables were sitting on it). It was miserable, but it did pass, and was due to a nice remodel. What did one portable say to the other portable? Meet you on the playground.

At the orientation at my daughter's high school they said that it's an open campus, and students can leave for lunch because the food service can't serve the number of students in the school any more. Oh, is that why? I thought it was just a California thing. (My wife taught at Monta Vista for 15 years.)

Oh, is that why? I thought it was just a California thing. (My wife taught at Monta Vista for 15 years.) Where would the Monta Vista kids without cars go for lunch? There's nothing within walking distance other than 7-11. Not that there's many Monta Vista students without cars!

Where would the Monta Vista kids without cars go for lunch? There's nothing within walking distance other than 7-11. Not that there's many Monta Vista students without cars! My kids are at Los Altos High. There's nothing near there, but kids still go out for lunch. I thought some lunch trucks stopped nearby Los Altos High around lunchtime. - Peter
