no you dont. but if you want to get the dyes that require you to mix developer and color, stay away from those. the color doesnt last long even though it says permanent. I would recommend just going to a local grocerie store to get ready made hair dye in a box, you will be glad that you did. Funny, i used storebought box dye for years, then switched to the separate-component mix-it-yourself stuff from beauty supply stores. I've actually had *far* better results mixing the dye myself than with box dyes, & i like being able to mix the amount i need. I only need 2 oz to do my roots, but it would always make me feel wasteful when the store ones made up 4 oz. & even when i split them out & mixed them up in smaller quantities in my own applicator, i felt bad because i had all that trash to throw away (extra applicator, instructions, box). Now i have my own fab reusable rubber gloves (instead of those hand shaped snadwich bags you get in box dyes), i generate less waste, & i like the results better. So obviously some folks' MMV on this.
