A lot of people are under the impression that you have to have a cosmetology license to shop at beauty supply stores, but this is true only for certain items that might pose a danger (such as eyelash dye, or harsh dye strippers)

and not too long, and I could do the job with just half of the solution. Is it safe to mix just half of the color and activator together and recap the remainder of the two bottles/tubes? Yes, I know that you NEVER store pre-mixed solution! But if you leave half of each bottle (unmixed), could you store it for the next time? I thought about calling the company help line, but then I realized they're not going to encourage me to save money by using half, so I thought I'd ask here! : ) Thanks for any advice! Diva

I wouldn't keep them, after opening they are exposed to oxygen and will go off quickly making the last half less effective or maybe even effective in the wrong way if left for to long. Play safe if the last half goes wrong on your hair when you mix it and apply it how much will it cost to put it right again ????

Salons have usually tubes of the colorant and big bottles of the activator usually a form of peroxide but the tubes come in fairly small sizes as they need to be used fairly quickly after opening or they will not be effective or spoil. A tube will do on average 2 heads of medium length hair. Once when I was training at college we used a half a tube that looked OK from the store room only thing was it was to old and turned the ladies roots purple she was after a light brown colour ! Hair can cost a lot to be put right by the professionals so why risk it ?

Why not find a friend who would like the same shade and have a hair coloring party? Treat her to the other half so you don't have to store it. I did this with my brother once when he was about 14 and wanted to dye his growing out buzz cut.
