I can't find FAQ for news.groups with any search engine. Is there any? It was difficult to find, because posting-frequency is semi-monthly 1st and 15th and news.groups receives a lot of articles. I recommend posting the FAQ more frequently, e.g. try to find the news.groups FAQ with this search: When the FAQ  was written the time period was discussed.  In general once per week is considered two often to post an FAQ.  Semi-monthly did have the most support.   One other poster reported that the NSP being used had only a few days (less then 10) retention.  It might be needed to post it more often as most users do not appear to reag sigs.

Hi, I'm looking for some free management software for my hairdressing salon in England. Such sofware as: Appointments that can be displayed on the screen, re-ordering stock, clients records etc. can anyone help news.groups is a Usenet news group where folks discuss the creation &c. of Usenet newsgroups and isn't really the spot to ask questions like yours. Actually, I don't fully agree.  The question What (big-8) newsgroup discusses topic X fits here (news.groups) better than anywhere else, although I believe the official group is news.newusers.questions. However, that isn't what the original poster was asking, and any other aspects of his question are off-topic in this newsgroup.

When the FAQ  was written the time period was discussed.  In general once per week is considered two often to post an FAQ.  Semi-monthly did have the most support.   One other poster reported that the NSP being   used had only a few days (less then 10) retention.  It might be needed to post it more often as most users do not appear to reag sigs. I suggest once every month or at least once every three months, because people new to internet can't make better searches than this to search for a FAQ for a newsgroup before they post a message: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&as_drrb=q&q=faq+group%3Anew... Nowadays there are people who just want to find fast the appropriate newsgroup, and if they can't find the best possible newsgroup, they just post to some newsgroup, and some of them use Google Groups (because it's easy to use) to do that, see some examples of off topic messages in news.groups posted with Google Groups:     where can I find free hairdressing management software    http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&th=5cb17d8cc6552c1a     a new user on google newsgroups    http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&th=ef5fa5fc2820c0f4     EURO    http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&th=f337043d114e95a4 Google Groups have some guidelines for newsgroups on http://groups.google.com/googlegroups/posting_faq.html:     To post a message, you must first identify the newsgroup in which you    wish to start a discussion or select an article to which you wish to    respond. But Google Groups FAQ doesn't contain the information on how to identify the correct newsgroup. I tried to find web pages that would help people to find the correct newsgroup for a certain subject, but I didn't find any with these searches: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=%22how+to+find+the+correct+n... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=%22how+to+find+the+appropria... With this search I found four pages: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=%22how+to+find+the+right+new...    http://www.nonviolence.org/support/    http://www.websearchguide.ca/discuss/ginews.htm    http://osiris.sunderland.ac.uk/intro-computing/week4.htm    http://iwi2-biw.iwi.unisg.ch/sw_support/internet/inu25.htm#E68E155 But I think these pages don't have any good examples for new users of internet. This might be one good advise for users, who want to learn how to search for the correct newsgroup:

I'm looking for some free management software for my hairdressing salon in England.
Software for hairdressing has been asked before in the newsgroups: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=hairdressing+software&hl=en&lr=&sel... http://groups.google.com/groups?q=hairdressing+software&hl=en&lr=&sel... http://groups.google.com/groups?q=hairdressing+software&start=10&hl=e... See Finding Appropriate Newsgroup Version 2 for other newsgroups where you can ask:

P.S. I'm not going to do a home page for Finding Appropriate Newsgroup , but if someone wants to do it, you may freely copy my text above to the page for new users of internet. And please make more example questions, because there are people who need more/better examples. Tip: include find appropriate newsgroup , find correct newsgroup and find right newsgroup , so the page will be found with a search engine. n.g FAQ does provide some tips of how to find the proper group(s), perhaps that can be reworked on in wording.  I do not believe it should be tailiored to google users though.  The bigest problem is that so few look for the FAQ.  It can be found by most twice a month.  Most NSPs do provide big-8 text retention of at least 30 days (some much more). I can see one reason finding the FAQ I maintain is that there are other on-topic FAQs posted to this group and there is nothing I can do about that.

As for writing an FAQ for google users (an increasing number of users are using them or other web-_base_d interfaces) that should be addressed by google and posted to the daja group IMO. Google Groups contact information can be found at:    http://groups.google.com/contact/groups.html
